The Greater Hudson Valley Council Mission
It is the mission of the Greater Hudson Valley Council, Boy Scouts of America to deliver the highest-quality, values-based youth program of character development and leadership training, based upon the precepts embodied in the Scout Oath and Law, and to prepare our young people to make ethical decisions in order to reach their full potential and to better serve their family, community and country.
Our Impact
The Greater Hudson Valley Council, BSA is a proven program serving nearly 10,000 youth in seven counties in New York and Pennsylvania. The Council also serves another 4,000 adult volunteers.
Most people think of Scouting as a camping program. Camp is merely the classroom we use to keep youth engaged in the real program; leadership and character development. CLICK HERE TO LEARN ABOUT THE AIMS AND METHODS OF SCOUTING
With units in virtually every town throughout our eight counties, we provide volunteers for everything from parades to roadside cleanup. Scouts engage in service projects that provide needed improvements to County and State parks, cleaning up and expanding trails; libraries and food pantries, fixing storage rooms and building benches; and Town properties, creating kiosks with information for residents; providing PSAs for other nonprofits, writing and directing a video about the importance of breast cancer screenings to name just some. Scouts often partner with the business community to build a connection between the local business, government, and nonprofit sectors.
We have provided over 45,000 service hours a year to the towns we serve and other nonprofit organizations through our program's dedication to servant leadership; the idea that we lead others by serving our community.
301 scouts earned the rank of Eagle in 2022, a nationally recognized badge of leadership training.
According to a Tufts University Study, Scouts are more likely to embrace positive social values than non-scouts. Scouting is making our communities a better place to live.
