The Fine Print
The Guide To Safe Scouting guidelines are to be followed at all times while at Durland.
Check in-Check out: Check-in is between 5 PM and 9 PM Friday or before 4 PM Saturday. Check out is by 10 AM on Sunday.
Units MUST check out with the Ranger or Campmaster BEFORE leaving Camp.
Cabin Firewood: Firewood for the Cabin Fireplaces must be less than 16" in length. It is provided for you on porch for the cabin. Additional wood may be purchased through the Campmaster or at the Trading Post. This wood is ONLY to be used in the Fireplace inside the cabin.
Artificial Fuels: Propane (Lp) gas and liquid fuel is permitted for use in lanterns and stoves, under adult supervision. Lanterns and stoves are to be used only outside - not in buildings or under canvas of any type. All artificial fuel must be stored with the Ranger/Campmaster.
Camp Improvement: As a "Good Turn" to our camps, each unit is encouraged to schedule a 1+ hour camp improvement or conservation project. Units who work on a pre-arranged 8-hour service project with the Ranger will receive a free tent site.
Damage to Equipment and Facilities: Any damage resulting from malicious intent and/or gross negligence will result in units being assessed full cost of restoration. In extreme instances law enforcement authorities will be notified.
Drinking Water: Potable water is available from designated sources only. The Ranger/Campmaster will inform you of where to obtain drinking water.
Emergencies: Notify the Campmaster/Ranger in the event of any need for assistance. If it becomes necessary to contact police, fire or ambulance services do so by dialing 911, and then immediately notify the Campmaster/Ranger. The street address for the Durland Scout Reservation is 1 Clear Lake Road, Putnam Valley, NY 10512. All cabins have a letter and number designation posted on the outside of the building by their front entrance.
Emergency Telephones: The Ranger and Campmasters can be reached during the weekend in case of emergency at (845) 526-2029. This is not the number to use for business day calls.
Fires: Use established fire rings. Do not build fires larger than necessary. Adequate water to extinguish your fire must be on hand at all times. Unattended fires must be extinguished, and all fires must be completely extinguished prior to check-out. In addition:
- Safe areas for fires to be selected & maintained.
